Celebrate National Foster Care Month in May
National Foster Care Month is a time to recognize the role each of us plays in enhancing the lives of children and youth in foster care. This year, the theme for National Foster Care Month is “Building Blocks to Permanent Families.” The Children’s Bureau’s National Foster Care Month website provides resources that highlight a variety of practices and approaches you can use to support permanence through reunification, kinship care, guardianship, and adoption for children and youth in foster care and their families.
The picture at the bottom of this article is of part of our “Wall of Fame.” These photos were hung in honor of Ron Bell, a late Board of Trustees member, and it celebrates the many adoptions that have taken place as a result of our loving foster families stepping forward to become a family for a child that was in need.
Not all of our youth have these opportunities and many could have avoided or prevented the need for placement in foster care had the community intervened earlier in the life of their family, like our Safe Families volunteers are now doing.
Check out our website for ways to become involved with these very special children. At Building Families we are creating forever families for kids and forever support systems for hurting families. To those supporting this worthy mission.
Happy Foster Care Month 2015!
