Do you have a heart to serve families in a therapeutic relationship and make a difference in their lives? Building Families for Children, Inc. (BFC) is a faith-based, family services nonprofit agency located in Columbia, Maryland. The mission of BFC is to share the love of Christ by helping Maryland’s most vulnerable children thrive in families. BFC has a contractor opening for a Therapist in its Therapeutic Family Services program. This opportunity allows therapists to support and meet the complex needs of vulnerable children within a flexible schedule.

The Therapist provides therapeutic services to children and families with a focus on healing past trauma and building healthy attachments. With an agency focus on child welfare (foster care and caring for vulnerable children/families) and the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) approach, the Therapist will become familiar and align their practice accordingly. Once assigned, the Therapist will complete initial assessments, provide treatment services that track intended outcomes, and complete required documentation.

Building Families for Children will provide referral and billing support to allow the therapist to focus solely on clients. Therapists will be provided with access to an electronic health record for scheduling, communication and therapy notes.

Minimum requirements of the Therapist position: Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) required. Prior clinical experience as a therapist preferred. Specialized training in trauma and attachment work and/or TBRI® Practitioner Training preferred. Independent Contractor must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule with some evening hours and be compatible with a faith-based approach and environment. To be considered for the position, the therapist must be self-motivated and well-organized. In addition, the therapist must possess outstanding skills in these critical areas: (1) knowledge of family systems and their impact on mental health within the family; (2) excellent assessment and clinical intervention skill; (3) strong written and verbal presentation skills; (4) ability to provide necessary self-care; (5) ability to work independently as well as with a clinical team; (6) knowledge of and sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
