Building Families for Children has some exciting new trainings happening. Our Clinical Director, Lizette Ubides, LCSW-C, and I created a day-long learning experience for our CHOSEN staff, Treatment Foster Parents and outside treatment providers who may interact with our youth. This training focused on Trauma Assessment and Interventions. As an agency, we know that all of our children have experienced trauma. Part of the work we do with our CHOSEN youth is to evaluate the level of therapeutic need each child has and to match them with an appropriate treatment provider. During the training, staff gained an in-depth understanding of trauma and the impact it has on youth during the first half of the day. The second half of the day focused on various treatment modalities to help traumatized clients. Staff learned which treatments work best depending upon the unique needs and abilities of the child. As an added bonus, by offering the training in-house to staff and for a nominal fee to outside agencies, we were able to cut overall staff training costs, and build our community resources. We plan to continue building trainings and have a few more planned for later this year on subjects such as “Family Integration,” “Moral Development” and “Attachment Disorder.”

“I was fascinated by the different treatment modalities and which are more appropriate for certain clients. The examples were very illustrative.”
