Did you know that kids who have been in foster care are less likely to graduate high school and more likely to be incarcerated, experience homelessness, and have their own children taken into foster care?
Since our founding nearly 100 years ago, Building Families has been disrupting the cycle of instability and brokenness that often is a part of the experience of children from hard places, such as foster care.
CHOSEN Treatment Foster Care (TFC) is one of the programs along that continuum. Through CHOSEN, we provide family-based care for kids who come from hard places, who require more than the basic care and nurturing that regular foster care provides. While children are in our TFC program, they are placed in the loving homes of our foster parents, who are trained, supervised and supported.
The model our team follows is Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI), which is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children.  “TBRI® uses Empowering principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI is connection.” (www.child.tcu.edu)

Kate Oliver, Training Manager at Building Families for Children, is an enthusiastic supporter of TBRI. When asked about TBRI, she said:

“In my experience, TBRI has the approach that is the most helpful and efficient way to get kids, who have been knocked off track developmentally due to life circumstances, back on track. It is the only intervention I have come across that really looks at the functioning of the whole child and tailors an approach to the unique needs of that child. It works!”

If you are interested in learning more about TBRI or if you want to know more about becoming a foster parent, please visit www.buildingfamiliesforchildren.org/tfc. Join us at one of our monthly information sessions to learn about CHOSEN Treatment Foster Care and ask questions.

We hope you will prayerfully consider investing in the next generation through our CHOSEN program. These kids don’t need you to be perfect, they just need you.
