overview

In the last 96 years, we have helped over 20,000 children and parents – regardless of their background or beliefs. We serve kids in families and communities, versus institutional settings, believing that God established the family as the best place for children to grow and develop.

services

Every child deserves a safe, nurturing family where they can grow and thrive. We make sure children are cared for in a family setting through our two key service areas: Family Strengthening and Treatment Foster Care.

Family Strengthening

Safe Families for Children™ & Therapeutic Family Services
Our Family Strengthening Services are trauma-informed and evidence-based early interventions designed to strengthen families and keep them intact.

LEARN MORE

Safe Families™ mobilizes a network of compassionate volunteers to wrap around families facing crisis. While some volunteers temporarily provide housing for kids, others step in to mentor parents and help them achieve their goals. These supportive relationships provide the safety net many vulnerable families need to keep children out of the foster care system and achieve long-term stability.

Therapeutic Family Services In-house therapists work with children of all ages and their caregivers to address emotional and behavioral difficulties resulting from trauma. We help families of all types (adoptive, foster, biological) to connect, heal, and thrive together! Services can be self-paid or billed to M.A. We also host Therapeutic Day Camps and Parenting Workshops throughout the year.

Treatment Foster Care

Children of Special and Exceptional Need (CHOSEN)
Our Treatment Foster Care program serves children after they’ve been removed from their home by a local Department of Social Services, placing them in foster families equipped to help them heal and thrive.

LEARN MORE

Through our Children of Special and Exceptional Need (CHOSEN) program, which stands for Children of Special and Exceptional Need, we provide family-based care for children in treatment foster care who, due to childhood trauma, require more than the basic care and support that regular foster care provides.

By training certified foster parents to understand how trauma effects the brain, and equipping them with the tools and support they need, children who are the most likely to be placed in an institutional setting are able to grow and thrive in a family!

values

Christ Centered

As a Christian, faith-based agency, we integrate the principles that Jesus taught in word and action into our day-to-day work and decision-making. By doing this, we commit to caring for each other, learning and growing together, creating a climate for personal, professional and spiritual growth, and demonstrating love to all whom we serve. The agency’s Statement of Faith provides the biblical context and foundation from which we work – staff, volunteers, and Board of Trustees.

Family Focused

The focus of our help, primarily, is on the family unit rather than the individual child or any one family member. We believe that the best opportunity for long-term healing, growth, and development occurs in the context of the family. When an individual’s family is not involved or accessible, we strive to create a family-like environment for that individual. Each family’s perspective is important to elicit as each family is unique.

Community Minded

We share our time, skills and resources in strengthening communities to care for one another, especially for those most vulnerable.  We believe that supportive, thriving communities build strong families. We mobilize and draw on formal and informal community resources to help meet needs. The church is a vital community partner of ours in achieving our mission.

Strengths Based

We get to know each other in strengths and positive attributes (i.e., values, beliefs, goals, dreams, etc.) and connect our strengths to life’s challenges that each person may realize their gifts and purpose. The negative situations, circumstances and experiences of others are often seen as weaknesses, but we believe that it is in our brokenness we come to know and trust others, and ultimately to trust God.

Integrated

We strive for service delivery that improves a family’s access to services across programs in a way that anticipates family needs and empowers self-sufficiency. We make sure that our programs do not operate in isolation but instead work together, internally and within our strong community networks, to empower the family towards stability.

Stewardship

We recognize the value of all that God has entrusted us with and work diligently to use our resources wisely and in ways that glorify Him.  Therefore, we are committed to accountability and sustainability in our day-to-day operations. This applies to our financial and human resources, and to the lives of those we serve.
