Our agency has been asked to lead a new initiative called the “Community of Hope” in the Patterson Park area of Baltimore City. This initiative is gaining momentum with the interest of several City agencies, such as the Department of Social Services and Human Resources, the Mayor’s Office, and other stakeholders. Casey Family Programs, a national foundation, has provided us with a great degree of technical assistance as we work closely with them to model this project after others they have sponsored around the country.
We believe that the collective impact will be significant as we look to “change the narrative” for the families of Patterson Park, especially in light of the recent events in Baltimore City where it has become clear that “hope” is very much needing to be instilled. It is impressive that this community has active resident leaders, including those in the faith community and those involved with other child/family servicing non-profits. We have been meeting regularly with these residents and other stakeholders to envision a community where families are stable and the services within the community are breaking through existing barriers to provide the support needed to keep families strong. We will keep you informed about this initiative’s progress through our newsletters and Insider updates.
