This is a short story from one of our mothers who has been helped through Safe Families for Children. After escaping a sex trafficking ring, she was in need of support to be the mother God intended her to be for her daughter! Safe Families provided a safety net to help stabilize this family by having many volunteer families available. Each time she was faced with another crisis, they were there for her like an extended family. Such a rich blessing to be the hands and feet of Jesus for this family.
“I’m currently a client at Building Families for Children. My first encounter was around October 2014. I needed help with my daughter, at the time she was about seven months old an I was going inpatient in a mental intuition for medication. I’m here from Philadelphia with no family. I had no one else to call. This organization set me up with my first Host Family an they welcomed my daughter an I with open arms. Truth be told I’m still in contact with this family an they still help us a lot. My daughter came back safe an well taken care of. They took care of her for a week. My second interaction was when I had to move. I didnt want to be moving with my daughter around so the same Host Family took her for another week while I got every thing situated an in order. Im also in recovery around October I relapse. I went to the Host Family an told them the truth knowing they would be non-judgmental an most of all, help me get back on track. Building Families cared for us soo much. They spent hours with me looking for a place of recovery. Also the day I told them the truth. The Host Family kept her. Being unsuccessful at the first place of recovery, they set me up with a inpatient rehab named Safe Harbor. I was able to take my daughter there as I recovered. I stayed in this program for sixty days. Upon my release I needed help again to get my outside life back in order. Every psychosocial stresser you can think of I endured. No daycare, No job, No therapist, No stable housing. Considering my life to be unmanageable, I reached out to the program again. My daughter was placed with another Host family, nevertheless; my daughter returned with out shadow of a doubt well taken care of. When I had to find another place to live I met my third an last Host Family. They were like the first two. Chrisitain, loving,caring,an a noticeable desire to help. My first Host Family even helped me get my gas an electric paid from donation at there church. CPS was never involved. Without this program clearly they would have been. This organization listen to me, they understood with I thought no one would, they loved me even when I didn’t feel like I loved myself. They listened to the words that I was saying, they also heard the words that I wanted to say but didn’t, thinking they would judge me or reject me. The experience I had with this program, No words could honestly express. As of today I have six months clean. I start work in August as an IEP-Aide. Im closer to God. Im a better mother to my daughter. I GAIN ME BACK!! I honestly have no idea where I would be without them. I don’t have to find out either.
