Patterson Park Community of Hope (COH) is a collaborative, community effort in its beginning stages that envisions: “… a place where all children are safe and have the support they need from the adults in their lives to grow up healthy and succeed.” To date we have held three community engagement events for families and have held a few “meet and greets” with interested residents in order to form a Citizens Advisory Board.

All of our COH activities are centered around building on the 5 Protective Factors that are known to strengthen families. For more information on the protective factors click here.

The current group of resident leaders in Patterson Park mobilized around the idea of having a “Block Cleanup Event” following feedback that this is an important issue to residents. Volunteers from Mosaic Christian Church, South Columbia Baptist Church, Healthy Harbor, and the local community helped to pick up trash, remove weeds, spread mulch, paint a storm drain and do other light gardening jobs. The Block Party included a Snowball Machine, Popcorn Maker, free t-shirts and other giveaways. The block looks great and many Patterson Park residents expressed an interest in learning more and getting involved with the Community of Hope Initiative!
